Bokman interleaves his own philosophical musings with his memories of Ustvol'skaia.

    Galina Ivanovna Ustvolskaya lived in one city -- with three names -- all her life. She was born in "Petrograd" on J , and studied at the music college affiliated with the (then) Leningrad Conservatory from - Galina Ustvolskaya and the Piano carefully balanced programme with Ustvolskays's 3 rd and 5 th sonatas framed by Webern Variations and Boulez Notations, and separated by Silvestrov's Elegy to provide 'a few moments respite and balm' (ECM ).
